The App supports Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, and Gujarati.

Delhi-based digital mapping and geospatial services company MapmyIndia has enhanced the accessibility of its flagship Mappls app in nine regional languages for over 30 million users.

Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, IAS, the surveyor general of India, made the announcement on Wednesday at an event in New Delhi. This initiative aims to provide a seamless navigation experience for users across India, allowing them to access maps and navigation in their native languages.

The Mappls App now supports Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, and Gujarati. Users can utilise these languages regardless of their location within the country.

Rakesh Verma, co-founder and CMD of MapmyIndia, emphasised the importance of linguistic diversity in India. He noted that the app’s native language experience aligns with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Sarvottam Bharat.’

This feature is part of MapmyIndia’s commitment to inclusivity and is expected to attract more users with its India-centric functionalities.

The Mappls App, built on MapmyIndia’s industry-leading digital maps, encompasses 6.6 million km with more than 30 million businesses, 550 million geo-referenced images, 7,900 towns, and 637,000 villages.

Its features include turn-by-turn navigation and voice guidance in all supported languages. To enhance user convenience, it also provides localised search capabilities.

Beyond traditional 2D maps, the company is also innovating with 3D landmarks, terrain models, 4D real-time updates, HD high-accuracy maps, and RealView 360-degree geo-tagged panoramas. This aims to enhance its AI-powered digital metaverse twin of the real world.

Makwana stated, “I commend MapmyIndia for taking up this great initiative, which is a strong example of ease of use of geospatial for the common man for their everyday needs. This also serves as the national digital infrastructure for location-based technology.”

The app covers 99.9% of India’s road network and includes additional features such as traffic monitoring alerts and trip cost estimates.

This launch marks a significant advancement for iOS users in India. It is the only navigation platform offering multi-language support in nine Indian languages.

The initiative reflects MapmyIndia’s ongoing efforts to innovate and cater to India’s diverse linguistic landscape.

Recently, MapmyIndia also acquired a 9.37% equity stake in Kanpur-based startup SimDaaS Autonomy, according to reports. The deal, valued at approximately INR 3 crore, involved both equity funding and preference shares.
