Google’s Gemini app is getting upgraded with a new feature that allows it to recollect memories of past conversations with users.
The feature is rolling out to Gemini Advanced users with Google One AI premium subscription on the web and mobile app. In the announcement, they also mentioned that the feature would be made available in more languages in Google Workspace for business and Enterprise customers over the coming weeks.
With Google Gemini’s new 2.0 models powering the chat under the hood, this should be an exciting addition for the users.
Whether picking up on a previous question or summarising past conversations, Gemini now integrates past interactions to craft more relevant and efficient responses. This eliminates the need to repeatedly reintroduce topics, making conversations more natural and intuitive. It’s particularly useful for users working on ongoing projects or seeking AI assistance across multiple interactions, saving time.
Google also notes that when Gemini references past interactions, it may indicate this in its responses and sources, offering greater transparency.
Unlike Microsoft’s Windows Recall fiasco, Google lets users control the stored information. They can choose to review, delete, and decide how long to keep their chat history. The announcement also mentions that users can turn off the entire Gemini Apps Activity by heading to ‘My Activity’.
Last year, OpenAI’s ChatGPT also rolled out a memory function. With Google joining the list, we could expect more chatbots to do the same in the near future. A feature like this marks a significant step forward in AI-powered assistance, bringing a more personalised and efficient experience to users while maintaining privacy and control over stored data.
