Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin inaugurated CtrlS Datacenters’ new data centre park in Chennai’s Ambattur Industrial Estate on Tuesday.
According to Sridhar Pinnapureddy, founder and CEO of CtrlS Datacenters, the facility represents a direct investment of ₹4,000 crore and is expected to attract an indirect investment of ₹50,000 crore. It will create 500 direct jobs and 9,000 indirect jobs.
This development comes after the company announced a 40-acre data centre park near Hyderabad in January this year.
The Chennai data centre park features two buildings with a combined IT load capacity of 72 MW. The facility, situated 14 metres above sea level, is earthquake-resistant and flood-resistant.
It is also designed to meet global standards, ensuring a reliable power supply through a dedicated gas-insulated substation and offering high-bandwidth links to cloud service providers.
“The launch of our Chennai data centre park signifies a crucial step in our goal to create a top-tier digital ecosystem that meets global standards,” Pinnapureddy said.
This initiative aligns with Chennai’s growing status as a technology hub, supported by Tamil Nadu’s strong industrial framework and reliable power supply.
Chennai’s data centre capacity is projected to double by 2026, and ongoing projects will add significant capacity in the coming years. CtrlS Datacenters is also considering an initial public offering (IPO) as part of its future plans.
This development is the company’s fifth hyperscale data centre campus, following Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida and Bengaluru.
Other States Are Catching up
Apart from states like Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, other regions are also making significant strides.
The Andhra Pradesh government plans to collaborate with Google on the initiative ‘AI for Andhra Pradesh, powered by Google’.
Meanwhile, in the north, the Delhi government is exploring the establishment of an AI hub at its proposed Electronic City in Baprola.
Uttar Pradesh is also fostering AI innovation in Lucknow with its centres of excellence (CoE) and is planning for an AI City. The state also recently announced a ₹8.08 lakh crore outlay in the state’s Budget announcement for the year 2025-26 with a focus on AI, education, and urban development.
Moreover, Assam is marking its presence in the semiconductor industry with a major investment from the Tata Group.
At the Advantage Assam Summit 2025, Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), announced a significant investment of ₹50,000 crore in Assam over the next five years.
He emphasised that Assam will become a “technological paradise”, with the investment focused on key sectors such as AI and nuclear energy. Ambani added that ‘AI’ also represents ‘Assam Intelligence’.
Furthermore, on February 24, Madhya Pradesh took a major step towards becoming India’s next technology powerhouse at the Global Investors Summit 2025, with the IT and Technology Summit securing investment commitments worth ₹25,640 crore.
The state announced key investments that are set to generate approximately 1,83,400 employment opportunities.
