Replit Announces Agent v2, Offers Realtime App Design Preview

Replit, the online IDE (integrated development environment) platform, announced the second iteration of its agentic tool, the Replit Agent v2, on Wednesday. The agent helps users autonomously build end-to-end software products using natural language. 

Agent v2 is fundamentally more autonomous, said Replit. “At each step, it forms a hypothesis, searches for the right files, and only starts making changes when it has enough information to get the job done,” added the company in an announcement.

Replit also said that, per their testing, the agent is now ‘much less likely’ to get stuck on the same bug. The tool is now capable of rethinking its approach to the bug instead of getting stuck in a loop. 

Agent v2 is also said to ‘excel’ at building user interfaces and features a ‘real-time app design preview’. This feature renders live interfaces as the agent creates the application. 

Agent v2 is now available for early access for users on Replit’s paid plans who have opted into the Explorer Mode. 

“If you use Replit, you gotta drop everything and try v2. We’re still in shock at how much more accurate it is,” said Amjad Masad, CEO of Replit, in a post on X. 

“Where [Agent] v1 gets stuck, Agent v2 often makes progress,” added Masad in another post. 

In December last year, the startup announced the general availability of the Agent on its platform. 

Besides, Replit has also introduced the latest Claude 3.7 Sonnet model to its platform, which many users regard as the ‘best AI model’ for coding. 

A few weeks ago, Replit also announced a feature allowing users to build mobile apps based on natural language using the Replit Agent. All users had to do was describe the idea to the agent in natural language, and the tool would build a fully functional web application within minutes. 

With improvements to its coding agent, it will be interesting to see how it competes with Cursor, Windsurf, and others. Entrepreneur Ethan Beard said on X that he prefers Replit Agent v2 with Claude 3.7 over Cursor or Windsurf. 

Another user on X said, “Replit Agent v2 is really impressive. I asked it to build a website to test its capabilities, and it has been working on it for the past 10 minutes without any intervention from me,” indicating promising results.
