This release comes shortly after OpenAI rolled out a similar memory update to ChatGPT.

xAI has introduced a new ‘memory’ feature for its Grok chatbot, allowing it to remember details from past conversations and offer more personalised responses. The feature enables Grok to ‘learn’ user preferences over time, improving recommendations.
Grok’s memory is transparent, meaning users can see what the bot remembers and choose to delete specific memories or all stored data.
This feature is currently in beta on Grok.com and the Grok apps for iOS and Android, but it is not available for users in the EU or U.K. Users can disable the memory feature via the settings menu.
xAI is also working on bringing this memory feature to Grok on X.
This release comes shortly after OpenAI rolled out a similar memory update to ChatGPT, allowing it to reference all past conversations and saved memories. The update is meant to improve the AI’s ability to deliver context-aware responses and is now available to all Plus and Pro users globally, except in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein.
xAI commented on the timing via Grok’s official account on X: “Let’s just say great minds think alike, and we’re always cooking up something new at xAI.”
In February, Google introduced a similar capability where Gemini can recall past chats to provide more helpful responses. Whether you’re asking about something previously discussed or requesting a summary of an earlier conversation, Gemini uses relevant chat history to generate its reply.
