Sify Inaugurates ‘South India’s Largest AI-Ready Data Centre’

Sify Technologies Limited, an IT and communications giant based out of Chennai, has inaugurated the Chennai 02 data centre campus on Thursday. The company claims that it is “South India’s largest AI-ready data centre campus”.

The data centre campus is designed for a capacity of over 130 megawatts (MW) and has a power density of eight to 25 kilowatts (kW) for air-cooled racks and up to 200 kW for liquid-cooled workloads. Besides, the campus also has two petabytes of storage capacity. 

The data centre will also enable enterprises to host “dense AI workloads up to 200 kW power or rack”.

“With our cumulative investment now crossing ₹10,000 crore from an initial commitment of ₹2,500 crore, we are not only building digital infrastructure but also creating an ecosystem of 

opportunity. We envision generating employment for 10,000 people—direct and indirect—as this facility ramps up,” Sify chairman Raju Vegesna said. 

The facility was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin. 

Last September, Sify became the first company to achieve NVIDIA’s DGX-ready data centre certification for liquid cooling. Soon after, the company also announced the Sify Cloudinfinit +AI, a platform that provides GPU-as-a-service for enterprise users to support various AI, deep learning and compute-intensive workloads. 

This certification ensures that data centre infrastructure, software platforms, and managed services are fully optimised for NVIDIA DGX AI systems, turnkey solutions that integrate high‑performance GPUs, storage, and software.

The company has established several data centres across the country. Besides Chennai, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Noida, and Hyderabad host Sify’s data centres. The company was founded in 1995 and established India’s commercial data centre in Vashi, Mumbai in 2000. 

Sify provides services for India’s leading banks, manufacturing hubs, global social media platforms, and over 10,000 enterprises in the country. 

Earlier this year, the company announced a $5 billion investment to expand its data centre footprint. The company is said to invest in establishing more data centres across several tier 2 and tier 3 cities in India. 

Over the last few years, India’s data centre landscape has gained significant momentum. Earlier this year, it was reported that Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) plans to construct what could become the world’s largest data centre by capacity in Jamnagar.
