OpenAI Launches Free AI Courses for Learners Worldwide

OpenAI has announced the next phase of its Academy, introducing a free online resource hub to promote AI literacy and accessibility and introduce new courses. The platform requires only an email and LinkedIn profile for enrollment. 

Launched last year in September, OpenAI Academy has now expanded to offer a variety of free resources, including video tutorials, courses, and workshops. Topics range from basic AI concepts and ChatGPT usage to advanced subjects like prompt engineering and large language model (LLM) integration.

Originally launched as an in-person program for developers and technical users, is now being scaled to reach a wider audience, including educators, students, job-seekers, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners.

The platform also features a mix of online and in-person events. Some of the upcoming events include ‘AI for Older Adults: Introduction to AI,’ ‘Automate Knowledge Graphs for RAG: Building GraphRAG with OpenAI API,’ ‘Getting Started with AI for Nonprofits,’ ‘Streamline Business & Developer Workflows,’ and more.

The courses also include Prompt Engineering,  ChatGPT on Campus, and AI for K-12 students, catering to diverse audiences such as developers, educators, and students.

The Academy’s new online hub will feature an expanding collection of on-demand educational materials developed in collaboration with partners like Common Sense Media. 

Additionally, OpenAI is launching in-person AI literacy workshops in partnership with institutions such as Georgia Tech and Miami Dade College, workforce organisations like CareerVillage and Goodwill, and mission-driven nonprofits, including OATS from AARP and the Fund for the City of New York.

OpenAI also collaborates with Goodwill Keystone in Pennsylvania to co-develop an AI literacy workshop for employment specialists. The program aims to train staff to use ChatGPT for job-seeker support, including resume feedback, mock interviews, and career guidance.

Recognising the growing demand for AI education, OpenAI plans to introduce community groups, multilingual content, and international partnerships in regions such as APAC and Latin America. 

Additionally, OpenAI will work with governments to develop policies that enhance AI literacy and workforce readiness, ensuring that communities worldwide benefit from AI advancements. 

OpenAI Academy aims to scale internationally. Future updates include community groups and policy collaborations to strengthen AI education frameworks.
