Google Slides has made it easier for users to enhance their presentations with new image generation capabilities and additional tools.
On Tuesday, Google Workspace announced that Google Slides will now use Imagen 3, its latest text-to-image generation model, along with other feature updates. While the internet is abuzz with OpenAI’s GPT-4o native image generation feature, Google is adding its image generation capabilities to its suite of products.
Dennis Hu, group product manager of Google Slides, mentioned in a blog post, “With Imagen 3, you can generate highly detailed, realistic images, and you also have the ability to generate text and photorealistic images of people not just in Slides, but in Gmail, Docs, Sheets, and more.”
Hu added, “We’re also introducing new ways to create different-sized images based on the size you select (19:6, 16:9, 1:1) using Create an image.”

The blog post also stated that one can edit visuals, like removing backgrounds with the help of AI, and users can expect to extend the background of an image soon.
Google Slides users can now access a new feature, “building blocks”, to add editable pre-formatted structures, like inserting custom quotes, key ideas, agendas, stats, etc.

The Workspace update blog post explained, “These blocks, which function similarly to building blocks in Docs, are composed of native Slides elements and can be de-grouped and customised once inserted into your slide.”
In addition, the library of ready-made and editable templates was refreshed, including annual planning, proposals for new clients, workshop facilitation, and more.
Furthermore, Google Slides now offers new features, such as the ability to embed video feeds directly into presentations, record oneself while presenting, and then share with others. The collection of stock and web media has also seen an update, providing a wider selection of high-quality stock images, web images, GIFs, and more.
