AI upskilling platform DeepLearning.AI has announced a free short course titled ‘Vibe Coding 101 with Replit’. The course will teach learners how to build and deploy two applications using Replit’s agentic AI coding tools.
Throughout the process, it will also emphasise imparting fundamental concepts for effectively utilising the AI agent. This is achievable through a ‘five skill framework’ in vibe coding – thinking, using frameworks, checkpoints, debugging, and providing context.
The course will teach how to create a product requirement document (PRD) and a wireframe for the agent to build a prototype of a website performance analyser. Furthermore, it also instructs how to develop a head-to-head national park ranking app, using a sample data set with voting capabilities and persistent data storage.
The duration of the course is 1 hour and 34 minutes. While Deep Learning.AI suggests anyone can join the course, it adds that it is helpful to have some coding experience and some background in prompting LLMs.
The course will be taught by Michele Catasta, president of Replit, and Matt Palmer, head of developer relations at Replit.
‘Vibe coding’ is a term introduced by former OpenAI researcher Andrej Karpathy. It involves utilising AI-enabled coding tools to swiftly create applications using text-based prompts—almost as if transforming your ideas into magic. Since then, users have flooded the internet with their vibe coding experiments.
Last month, DeepLearning.AI announced a similar free short course in collaboration with Windsurf, another AI-enabled coding tool. The course assists learners in starting with Windsurf and creating a snake game in a “couple of minutes”, as well as a Wikipedia data analysis application. The latter will involve building a full-stack app that retrieves, parses, and analyses word frequencies, and visualises the data analysis.
Additionally, the course will instruct them on how to utilise the AI agent to analyse and rectify issues in JavaScript code, comprehend a large, outdated codebase, and update it according to the latest frameworks and packages.
DeepLearning.AI, founded by Andrew Ng in 2017, offers over 50 short and free courses that help learners leverage the latest advancements in generative AI. The platform also offers specialised courses on data engineering, machine learning, and deep learning.
