No discussion about AI is complete without mentioning Pat Gelsinger. His journey in the tech industry began at the young age of 18 when he joined Intel as a quality-control technician. Gelsinger has an associate’s degree from Lincoln Tech, a bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Santa Clara University, and a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Stanford University.
Throughout his initial 30-year tenure at Intel, Gelsinger played pivotal roles in developing key technologies, including the 80486 processor, USB, and Wi-Fi, and became the company’s first chief technology officer.
Today, despite NVIDIA’s dominance, the Intel chief is not backing down. He is determined to bring AI to PCs, overseeing a significant ramp-up in AI PC production with ambitious targets of 40 million units in 2024 and 100 million in 2025.
Recently, Intel unveiled the Lunar Lake client processor architecture, setting a new benchmark for x86 power efficiency and AI performance in thin-and-light PCs. To compete with NVIDIA’s H100, Intel has introduced the Gaudi 3 AI Accelerator, engineered for high-performance AI processing in data centres.
