Last month, Google.org granted $1 million to Karya.
Karya, a Bengaluru-based leading ethical data platform, has announced the launch of its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) offering. It aims to deliver ethical data work at scale while creating AI-enabled earning opportunities for low-income communities.
With over 50,000 workers completing more than 42 million paid digital tasks from home, Karya’s AI-powered platform enables seamless data collection and management. Its capabilities include smart task creation, worker management, secure payment systems, and adherence to ethical standards that ensure fair wages and high-quality data for businesses.
Global Launch
Expanding its reach internationally, Karya has partnered with The Patrick J McGovern Foundation to launch operations in Ethiopia, collaborating with Leyu, a crowdsourcing dataset startup, to enable ethical data work. In Kenya, Karya is working with Digital Green, a global development organisation to help farmers use technology, to collect Gikuyu language (Kenya) data, further supporting its mission to empower marginalised communities in the global South.
Karya’s PaaS model emphasises both social impact and technological efficiency, allowing global partners to access high-quality, ethically sourced data while creating economic opportunities in underserved regions.
This global expansion marks a significant step in Karya’s mission to democratise access to digital work and learning opportunities. Last month, Google’s philanthropic arm Google.org granted $1 million to Karya. The funding was aimed at supporting the company in creating an innovative digital skilling pathway and a multilingual, generative AI-powered chatbot to help workers complete digital tasks.
Karya was founded in 2021 by Manu Chopra, Vivek Seshadri, and Safiya Husain with a mission to bring AI-based earning and learning opportunities to low-income opportunities.
