Jio has been using blockchain technology in Jio TrueConnect.
Jio Platforms Ltd. (JPL), a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has formed a strategic alliance with Polygon Labs to make its Web3 and blockchain debut in India.
“This is a significant step forward for Web3 adoption in India. We look forward to
working with Jio as they introduce Web3 to their millions of customers,” said Sandeep Nailwal, founder of Polygon.
The partnership aims to integrate Web3 capabilities into some of JPL’s existing applications and services, utilising Polygon’s blockchain solutions to create innovative Web3 services for Jio’s 450 million customers.
Jio and Blockchain
“Joining forces with Polygon Labs marks a significant milestone in Jio’s journey towards digital excellence,” said Kiran Thomas, CEO of JPL and president at Reliance Industries Limited. “We are excited to explore the boundless possibilities of Web3 and bring unparalleled digital experiences to our users.”
Jio Platforms has been taking steps to adopt blockchain technology. The company has developed Jio TrueConnect, a blockchain-based platform that aims to tackle unsolicited communications and build trust in digital interactions.
The solution is part of Jio’s broader strategy to offer blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) solutions to enterprises. These solutions leverage smart contracts and consensus techniques to enhance business operations.
Furthermore, Jio Financial Services is exploring blockchain-based platforms as part of its expanding product portfolio, signalling a comprehensive approach to blockchain integration across the Jio ecosystem.
This is not the first initiative by telecom operators in India. Vodafone has also implemented blockchain technology to control spam calls and messages.
Reliance and AI
With a focus on AI, Reliance has been integrating various measures to leverage generative AI for an elevated customer experience. Last year, at the 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries unveiled a number of AI initiatives, including Jio Brain, Jio Ai-Cloud, Jio Phone Call AI, and more. The company even offered 100GB of free cloud storage for Jio users
Reliance has fortified its relationship with NVIDIA and is also investing big in building data centres in India.
