Jio Platforms to Offer SpaceX’s Starlink Internet in India

Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced a partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring Starlink’s high-speed broadband internet services to customers across India, the company announced on Wednesday.

The agreement hinges on SpaceX securing the necessary authorisations from the Indian government to sell Starlink within India. It will allow Jio and SpaceX to explore avenues for Starlink to complement JioAirFiber and JioFiber through consumer and business offerings. 

Gwynne Shotwell, president and COO at SpaceX, stated, “We are looking forward to working with Jio and receiving authorisation from the Government of India to provide more people, organisations, and businesses with access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services.”

This agreement came to light just a day after SpaceX announced its partnership with Airtel, another major player in India. 

Jio plans to distribute Starlink solutions via retail outlets and online platforms, as well as provide installation and activation support for customers to enable connectivity.

The collaboration aims to utilise Jio’s extensive data traffic capabilities and Starlink’s low Earth orbit satellite constellation to provide reliable broadband services throughout India to all enterprises, small and medium businesses, and even remote regions.

“Ensuring that every Indian, no matter where they live, has access to affordable and high-speed broadband remains Jio’s top priority,” said Mathew Oommen, group CEO at Reliance Jio. 

Oommen also expressed that Jio aims to expand its reach and enhance the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era, empowering communities and businesses across the country.

Jio Platforms also recently announced partnerships with AMD, Cisco and Nokia to build an Open Telecom AI Platform, offering a ‘multi-domain intelligence’ framework to introduce AI and automation to ‘every layer’ of network operations. 

This was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, which also saw other telecom partnerships like Keysight Technologies and Samsung as well as SynaXG and Kyocera. The event also saw AWS enter the game with its new cloud solutions to boost 5G networks.

These announcements came just after Jio’s other partnerships this year, which included California-based Confluent to advance generative AI development and Bengaluru-based Polygon Labs to bring Web3 and blockchain capabilities.
