Google recently launched its new model, Gemini-exp-1206, which has already claimed the top spot on the Chatbot Arena LLM Leaderboard. The model is now available for free in Google AI Studio and the Gemini API.“Gemini-exp-1206 has really made significant progress,” said Google senior product manager Logan Kilpatrick. “It’s #2 overall on Livebench, and we can’t wait to test more this weekend.”

— Logan Kilpatrick (@OfficialLoganK) December 7, 2024With the ability to process 2 million tokens—equivalent to over an hour of video—the model excels at handling large and complex datasets. Gemini-exp-1206 is likely to be Gemini 2.0. It can now accurately interpret time from analog clock images, a task that has challenged many models in the past.
According to some users on X, Gemini 2.0 Flash was seen on Cursor Pro. One user shared their thoughts on the short demo of Gemini 2.0 Flash, calling it “insane.” They raised two key points: first, questioning whether OpenAI’s o1-style reasoning will come at Flash pricing, and second, suggesting the possibility of a “Pro” version, or even an “Ultra” option soon.
Tried @GoogleAI Gemini-exp-1206 on @cursor_ai and is better and updated with the latest info.
You need your own API key from Google AI Studio (even though Cursor says you don’t—spoiler: it won’t work without it).

There are also speculations that Gemini 2.0 will be an omnimodal model, capable of generating text, images, and audio. Kilpatrick also hinted at the impending release of Gemini 2 Flash, saying, “Sometimes the most important things happen in a Flash” in a post on X.
Previously, Google launched its latest experimental AI model, Gemini-Exp-1121, on November 21, 2024. The Gemini series is central to Google’s AI strategy, featuring models like Gemini 1.0, Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 1.5 Flash, and Gemini 1.5 Flash 8B, which process and integrate text, code, audio, images, and video. Google also plans to release Gemini 2 soon.
Meanwhile, Google’s rival OpenAI, on the first day of the 12 Days of OpenAI, released the full version of o1 and a new $200 ChatGPT Pro model. The ChatGPT Pro plan includes all the features of the Plus plan and access to the additional o1 Pro mode, which is said to use ‘more compute for the best answers to the hardest questions.’ Furthermore, the plan is set to offer unlimited access to o1, o1-mini, and GPT-4, along with the advanced voice mode.
